Hi welcome to The Mortgage Guy Website.

My name is Chris Knapman.

I joined the Financial Services Industry in 2002 specialising in mortgages.

Previous to this I had spent most of my working life in engineering, first as an apprentice and finishing as a line manager responsible for 60 staff, over 3 shifts, handling both raw sheet metal through to painted and assembled components. Although a busy position this type of work gave me no satisfaction at the end of each day so I thought a change was needed.

Having left the engineering industry I needed to think about a new career, but in what?

After a 12 month break a friend invited me to work 15 hours a week in the back office of a busy mortgage broker, thus enabling me to have an insight into another industry and to see if I liked it, 6 months later I applied to a national broker who supported me through all of my training and exams.

Following 3 years employment with them I decided to move into self employment as I believed I could offer a better service to people.

I have always been a driven person; I always gain great satisfaction from resolving difficulties people may have and seeing them happier as a result of it.  

My own mortgage experiences taught me an awful lot. Looking back now at my first two mortgages, arranged by other people, I realise that I didn't have a clue about the agreement I was taking out. The result of this was that back in 1992 I was left with a property I could not afford. Had I been given the correct advice by another advisor I would have been able to keep my property as an investment and buy another property for myself. I don't wish for anyone to be left in a similar situation.

I have always maintained I will do my best to achieve whatever is financially viable for my client and provide an informative service whilst doing so.
