Craig Roach
I was born and bred in Newlyn, nr Penzance, where I lived until my early 20's.
I then moved to the Camborne / Redruth area, shortly after, marrying Nicola, we now live in Praze an Beeble, a small village between Camborne and Helston, where we also live with our two sons Oliver & Jacob and step daughter Jess.
I play cricket for our village side where I am also one of the groundsman. I also closely follow the Cornish Pirates where I am one of the many match day volunteers helping with various duties.
I joined the financial services industry in April 2007.
After finishing my education I commenced my working life as a YTS for local government, during the next 14 years I successfully progressed through the ranks and upon leaving in February 2006, I was the manager of two public facing offices in two different towns with overall responsibility for 45 staff. Even though this was a demanding role, I was very much governed by national set policy and had very little autonomy to change the delivery of the service to customers. I yearned for a role where I would be rewarded for my input and effort but also an opportunity to deliver different solutions to meet individual client needs.
After leaving the Civil Service behind, an ex colleague who had left a few years earlier offered me a sales position within a leading pan European IT recruitment company. Initially it was hard to adapt to working in the private sector as previously I was always led by national policies and guidelines. This new opportunity enabled me to manage my own time and be directly rewarded for my own individual effort which was hugely exciting and something that gave me a terrific buzz.
Twelve months later, a mortgage broker that I had been using for some time and got to know quite well was aware that I had moved into sales, he approached me to see if I would like to join his expanding company as an employed mortgage broker. After much discussion, I decided to take my next step into the financial industry and inturn undertook my training and successfully passed my financial exams.
After four years as an employed mortgage broker, the opportunity arose to work alongside Chris at The Mortgage Guy as a self employed broker. We share the very same ethos of being driven by delivering high levels of customer service and also meeting individual clients demands by finding suitable solutions to their financial needs.
